Three Years, 5K Orders & A Whole Lot of Country Concerts: My Sunlit Funlit Story

After 22 years in mortgage and 5,000 Etsy orders later, I finally launched my own store. Sunlit Funlit started with one funny Morgan Wallen tee and a dream to make concert wear for real country fans like me. Here’s the full story, how it started, why I left Etsy, and what’s coming next.

Three Years, 5K Orders & A Whole Lot of Country Concerts: My Sunlit Funlit Story

From 22 Years in Mortgage to One “Morgasm” Shirt

For 22 years, I worked in mortgage finance. It was the kind of career that eats your weekends, your sleep, (and your soul). I never really took time off. I couldn’t even enjoy a concert without checking my phone between songs, worried about a closing. I was daydreaming of alternate careers ALL THE TIME, but what? I've always had this creative streak - I can pun like no other - I’ve always loved words, and I’ve always been a huge country fan.

In 2022, my Morgan Wallen obsession was really ramping up, and somewhere between "Sand in My Boots" and "Wasted on You," I had a funny idea. What if I made a shirt that defined “Morgasm”? Like a dictionary graphic tee for Morgan fans. So I made it. And I started an Etsy shop with zero expectations, no clue about SEO or creating a listing that converts. I just wanted to see what would happen.

And y’all — it sold.

Launching an Etsy Shop Without a Clue (and Watching It Take Off)

I still laugh thinking about it. I opened the shop in February 2022. I barely understood how Etsy worked, I was clueless. I didn’t know how to write product titles, optimize for search, or market anything. I just put my little Morgasm tee up and waited.

And then it sold again. And again. By December that year, I had shipped over 1,000 orders — all from that one design. That tee is still one of my bestsellers today (but I've expanded the collection to hoodies, tanks, sweatshirts, hats — you name it).

As I started to understand how Etsy worked, I leaned into what I loved: creating original graphics that I knew other country fans would get. I focused on Morgan, Hardy, Jelly Roll, Post Malone — because I’m already obsessed with those artists. I know their fans, because I am their fans.

Building a Brand From My Own Love of Country Concerts

Sunlit Funlit became much more than a way to sell tshirts - at a tumultuous time in my life and career, it became about building a community of fans like me. I thought about all the things I personally shop for before a concert: comfy tanks, statement hoodies, graphic hats, cute crops, kids’ gear for mamas, accessories that spark conversations. So I designed them all.

My whole product line came from the question: What would I want to wear to this show?  And once I figured that out, I made it so you could wear it too.

Hitting 5,000 Orders and Dealing with the Downside

By August 2025, I had hit 5,000 orders on Etsy and had 6 current Bestsellers. That number still blows my mind. But what people don’t see is what comes with that kind of success, like watching your original designs pop up on Amazon, eBay, and other Etsy shops without your permission.

Design theft became a daily problem. I’d find my work reposted and resold by strangers who had nothing to do with it. Etsy made it so easy for people to copy — and so exhausting for me to report it all. At some point, I realized I was spending more time fighting off copycats than actually designing. And that’s not why I started this.

Why I Finally Left Etsy and Launched My Own Website

Leaving Etsy was hard. I had built a community there. I had customers who’d been with me since that first shirt. But I knew I needed to protect my creativity and get back to what I love: designing.

So this Friday, I’m officially launching sunlitfunlit.com — my own website, my own store, my own platform. With my own site, I can offer more products, better discounts, and way more freedom. No more tweaking listings to match Etsy’s ever-changing algorithm. No more losing sleep over who’s copying me.

This site is mine. And now it’s yours too.

What You Can Expect From Me Going Forward

You’ll still get everything you love:

  • Tees, hats, hoodies, sweatshirts, crops, tanks, accessories, kids wear — all made for the concert girl in all of us.

  • New drops based on the lyrics we're always humming in our heads.

  • Styles that reflect the fans who feel the music, not just hear it.

And here’s something I love: I welcome custom requests. Seriously — some of my favorite pieces have come from DMs and messages from customers with wild, fun, creative ideas. I love collaborating and bringing your vision to life. If you’ve got a lyric or a vibe you want to see on a tee, I’m all ears.

Final Thoughts: Just One Woman, A Stack of Orders, and a Whole Lot of Gratitude

This isn’t a big company. There’s no team. There’s just me and my print partners - celebrating every single order. When I say thank you, I mean it.

Whether you found me through Etsy, Instagram, Pinterest, or from a friend at a concert wearing one of my shirts — thank you. You helped me change my life for the better. You helped me leave burnout behind. You helped me build something that means more to me than I can say.

And now I’m so excited to start this next chapter with you!

Check out the new site: sunlitfunlit.com, and tag me in your fits @sunlitfunlit — because I’ll always be your biggest fan.
